Winter Hair

Winter has arrived! Although it’s time to be thankful that the summer conditions that affect hair are now at an end, it’s important to start getting into a hair care regime that is fit for the harsh effects winter can have on your hair. Winter can bring on a whole new set of problems that can mess up your ridey hair routine.

While your hair can get a little frazzled from summer heat and sunshine (typed with sarcasm as we live in Ireland), hair can get equally as damaged from the harsh winter if the right products and care aren’t used. Static, frizz and dryness from central heating can stop hair from retaining moisture and this can lead to brittleness and breakage. This can all be avoided if you follow my ridey hair winter routine.

Fight the Frizz: Lack of Moisture can make the hair cuticle uneven and frizzy which will cause dullness. Make sure to do a moisture treatment like Joico Luster Lock once a week. Make sure you comb through the hair and leave it in for an hour. I like to pop a towel in the dryer to heat it and wrap it around my head while the treatment is on. This will seal moisture in and help repair any damage.

Static: Anyone who has ever had this problem will know how extremely annoying it can be. Wearing a woolly hat in cold weather can bring on the hedgehog effect and trying to calm down the hair can sometimes make it worse. Even though this may sound like a strange solution, it can usually be curtailed by rubbing a Bounce sheet over your head.

Keep it cool: While you may be tempted to pump up the heat when showering it can have a dramatic effect on your skin and hair. Too much heat will dry your scalp out leaving you with flakey skin on your new woolly jumper. This is so not a good look. Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Purifying Shampoo combats the flakes while making sure your colour isn’t affected by fading. This sulfate free product is super gentle and perfect for all hair types.

Up the moisture: As hair tends to dry out during the winter months it’s really important to up the conditioning. Using a good moisturising conditioner such as Moroccan Oil Hydrating Conditioner is vital for keeping hair in tip top shape. Make sure that you concentrate on applying to mid lengths and ends while gently combing through with a Tangle Teezer brush to distribute the product evenly.

Hold that style: Between the damp cold weather and hot indoor heating hair styles can be hugely affected and have a personality change. Moroccan Oil can drastically reduce dryness while giving you silky locks that last all day. Joico Humidity Blocker is a lightweight finishing spray that will hold your style whether you’re running to your car in the middle of a rain shower or bopping in a club at your Christmas party.
